Praying for leadership is more important than you may know.

I would like to share a story that conveys why it is so important to pray for leadership and those we submit ourselves to. This happened during a time I was employed by a church. Part of my duties included being in charge of the children’s department as well as several other areas of responsibility. I was getting rather frustrated. The source of my frustration was my lack of doing anything for the children’s ministry. The other duties were consuming my time and energy. No matter how hard I worked there wasn’t any change. This went on for about a month. Then one day the pastor sat down with me just to “chew the fat”. The church had taken on a project that was consuming him. He wasn’t driving the project, the project was driving him. He recalled how it had been that way for almost a month. He had done nothing remotely relating to pastoring. He finished by saying that it was all coming to an end today; the project would just have to wait. He was going to be about the Fathers business, pastoring. After that day I found myself submersed in children’s ministries activities. At that moment I realized that we are very much connected to those we submit ourselves to. What affects their lives affects our lives. This is why we need to pray for our leaders. It may seem a bit selfish but it isn’t if the purpose is the Lord’s. Praying for our leaders to be about the work they are called to do, will in turn, open the door for us to do what God as called us to do. If you hit a rough spot in the road pray for those you are submitted to, they may be facing the same kind of issue.
